Psalms 47

God Our King

1For the choir director. A psalm of the sons of Korah.

Clap your hands, all you peoples; a
shout to God with a jubilant cry. b
2 For
Yahweh/Yah: Or The Lord; the personal name of God in Hebrew; "Yah" is the shortened form of the name.
Yahweh, the
Most High: The Hebrew word is Elyon. It is often used with other names of God, such as El (God) or Yahweh (Lord); it is used to refer to God as the supreme being.
Most High, is awe-inspiring,
a great King over all the earth. e
3 He subdues peoples under us
and nations under our feet. f
4 He chooses for us our inheritance
the pride of Jacob, whom He loves. g ,
Selah: A Hebrew word whose meaning is uncertain; various interpretations include: (1) a musical notation, (2) a pause for silence, (3) a signal for worshipers to fall prostrate on the ground, (4) a term for the worshipers to call out, and (5) a word meaning "forever"

5 God ascends among shouts of joy,
the Lord, among the sound of trumpets. i
6 Sing praise to God, sing praise;
sing praise to our King, sing praise! j
7 Sing a song of wisdom,

for God is King of all the earth. l

8 God reigns over the nations;
God is seated on His holy throne. m
9 The nobles of the peoples have assembled
with the people of the God of Abraham. n

He is greatly exalted. p
